Welcome to The Button Bar — Adelaide’s happiest little treasure trove of colour, craft, and creative chaos! Tucked inside the wonderfully whimsical Adelaide Arcade, our store has been inspiring sewists, knitters, button-collectors, costume designers, fashion enthusiasts and curious wanderers for decades.
Meet the New Owners: Vivienne & Kelly
We’re Vivienne and Kelly, two long-time friends and lovers of all things crafty. In November, we took a giant, adrenaline-fuelled leap and became the new owners of The Button Bar after the lovely Sylvia retired.
Sylvia ran this iconic shop for more than 30 years, she was famous for her spectacular button displays and her jam-packed shelves stacked with the most weird, wonderful, and delightfully unexpected stock you could imagine. Her store was the kind of place where you’d come in for one button and leave with a brooch, a crochet set, a tea cosy and ten buttons.
We’re honoured to continue her legacy… and add our own fun twist.

Our Magical Home: Adelaide Arcade
We’re proudly part of the 140-year-old Adelaide Arcade, built in 1885 and still sparkling with charm. With its iconic checkerboard floors, glass ceilings, and old-school elegance, it’s the perfect place for a store full of nostalgia and creativity. The Button Bar has become one of the Arcade’s most recognisable and unique spots - and we plan to keep it that way.
